Blog Break is Over

I thought it was important to write a little blurb to let many of you know that Amy and I are OK… Believe it or not I’ve been getting phone calls!!!

I’ve just been a little busy with traveling to and from Dallas. Being a trophy wife tends to take a little time out of my blog schedule.

Last weekend, Dallas started on Thursday night so I could make Edwards Fellowship Luncheon on Friday at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Which was pretty cool and I got to meet many of the people that Amy works with. That evening we got
luxury box tickets for the Dallas Stars game. They were free until Amy’s wallet got stolen and I spent the rest of the evening canceling credit cards.

Saturday, Amy and I went to a
local theater to watch A Christmas Carol. Did a little shopping and got some Sushi.

Sunday, Amy ran a leg in the
White Rock Marathon, which was about 5 or 6 miles. She didn’t set any records but she did it. That was followed by a party at Texas Scottish Rites Tent..

As we move into winter I will probably blog less.. Sorry, but I really like winter activates.

Seymour-Pusey

One of the biggest stories in the NFL football this year is the success of the Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo. Tony was undrafted and signed on as a free agent with Dallas 4 years ago and has gotten the Cowboys back to one of the top teams in the NFC. Truly a dream come true for a player from a small D1 school, Eastern Illinois University

But it’s quite possible that Tony isn’t the flyest playa from EIU… Nope, not a chance!!! That title would have to go to
Lucious Pusey… Yep, that’s the dudes name.. Well, was his name. Now he goes by Lucius Seymour. Maybe he dropped the hymen?

I guess he’s too good for the name his mama gave him. I’m sure his father was always very fond of Lucious Pusey..

And props to Rudi....

Oh' Deer

A Wisconsin man who argued that he could not be prosecuted for having sex with a deer because the animal was dead at the time, was dealt a legal setback when a judge rejected a motion seeking dismissal of a criminal charge against him. As a result of Circuit Court Judge Michael Lucci's ruling, defendant Bryan James Hathaway, 20, will have to stand trial for his alleged assault last month of the deer carcass. In his ruling (a copy of which you'll find linked below), Lucci denied a November 7 motion filed by Hathaway's lawyer, Fredric Anderson, which argued that the deer ceased being an animal upon its death (Hathaway, pictured at right, allegedly found the carcass in a roadside ditch). Anderson contended that a charge of sexual gratification with an animal could not be sustained because "the term 'animal' refers to a living organism, not a carcass." Lucci, however, noted that "most people understand that an animal does not necessarily cease being or qualifying as an animal or even being referred to as an animal once it's dead." He added that the "primary focus" of Wisconsin's criminal statute dealing with crimes against sexual morality is on "human behavior and on protecting sexual morality in the community, and not necessarily on animal protection."

Mini-Tree

Amy and I went out with my mom the day after Thanksgiving and scored this 4" pre-lit tree in the mighty Wal-Mart forest... And Rudi, no wise cracks.. this is our Dallas tree.. I fully intend on getting a real tree for our home in Minnesota... In fact, I think the Blincoln will come in handy for that task...

UP Holiday

Today is opening day of firearm deer season in Michigan. This “UP Holiday”, as posted by the Gladstone Area School District, includes all of the schools closing and most people having the day off work… Only in the UP…. This is one of the things I miss about home…

Here’s a couple of hunting tips to keep in mind..

#1. When you get to your blind before dawn open all 12 of your beers at one time as to not scare the deers later by crack'n them open as your drink'n them..

#2. When you get to your blind after lunch open all 12 of your beers at one time as to not scare the deers later by crack'n them open as your drink'n them..

Mini-Blincoln

Today UPS brought me this nice little thank you surprise from my friends at Lincoln.

I bet the
Playa Haters never got one of these little beauties from the used car dealer that sold them their fly rides… FLY 1 and FLY2.. Ya, I hope the CARFAX doesn’t get’ya…

Stick-Man

I have a concern that has been growing about my friend Nick, and it has to do with him not wearing a shirt, when he should be. In this photo Nick is racking leaves in Dayton, OH last week. It’s not like it was so hot that he had to take it off, or that he needed some sun because his “tan” was fading..

I don’t get it….. And I don’t get why he sends these photo’s to me….

Winter Wonderland

Today we got the first big snow storm of the year, by noon we had about 5 inches… I do love the snow and look forward to winter. Since we have moved to Minnesota winters have been pretty weak, but maybe this year will be different.

And, today was the first chance I had to use the truck (aka.. da' Blincoln: Bis Ass Lincoln) on snowy roads.. Very nice.. The Focus was a good snow car but didn’t have the (hey stay in your lane) road presence that an over 5,000lb. truck demands.. Safety first... :)

Added bonus.. I will be flying out the evening to Dallas (75 degrees) for a weekend with Amy.. Yep, best of both worlds..

Nicotini, Soaked Not Smoked

This drink is sure to calm your nerves. The nicotini burst upon the scene last summer to offset the smoking ban in restaurants all over the country. A liquid cigarette, this drink comes complete with all the nicotine rush and tobacco aftertaste found in an entire pack of Camels. The effect is achieved by soaking tobacco leaves in vodka overnight and deadening the tobacco juice’s harshness by adding five different liqueurs.

What does all this mean to the marketing and advertising world? Well, perhaps an entirely new pitch altogether. Are we about to market Marlboro Manhattans, Camel Chardonnays? How about Rum and Tangueray Tarletons, whose drinkers would rather drink than fight and menthol Mint Juleps and Winston Wallbangers? If so, will we go one step further and capture filtered or unfiltered or low and high tar drinks as well? I wonder what would happen if you mixed in a little Red Bull, probably a heart-attack.

With winter coming this would be a good idea for the Westfire.......

How Smart Is Your Right Foot?

This is so funny that it will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!!!

I told you so... And there is nothing you can do about it ..pass this on to your friends...

And thank you to Scott Stade for this valuable information... I guess when you stay home and don’t participate in the last 2 scavenger hunts, you’ll have time to sit around and try these things out… The bright side is that cardboard classics will be coming up in a couple of months…. Ooooo the UP, fun…. And the outhouse races in Trenary..

Trick or Treat..

Halloween is a tradition celebrated on the night of October 31, most notably by children dressing in costumes and going door-to-door collecting sweets. It is celebrated in parts of the Western world, though most commonly in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and with increasing popularity in Australia and New Zealand. Halloween originated among the Celts in Ireland, Britain and France[1] as the Pagan Celtic harvest festival, Samhain. Irish, Scots, Calan Gaeaf in Welsh and other immigrants brought versions of the traditions to North America in the 19th century. Most other Western countries have embraced Halloween as a part of American pop culture in the late 20th century.

The term Halloween, and its older spelling Hallowe'en, is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the evening before "All Hallows' Day"[2] (also known as "All Saints' Day"). In Ireland, the name was All Hallows' Eve (often shortened to Hallow Eve), and though seldom used today, it is still a well-accepted label. The holiday was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions, until Pope Gregory III moved the old Christian feast of All Saints Day to November 1 to give Halloween a Christian interpretation . Halloween is also called Pooky Night in some parts of Ireland, presumably named after the púca, a mischievous spirit.

Halloween is often associated with the occult. Many European cultural traditions hold that Halloween is one of the liminal times of the year when the spiritual world can make contact with the physical world and when magic is most potent (e.g. Catalan mythology about witches, Irish tales of the Sídhe).

Support Our Troops

A group of Marines and ex-Marines who fought in Iraq — including two wounded there — are featured in a beefcake calendar being sold to help wounded veterans.

"It's a stopgap effort to help people where government programs leave off," said Rudy Reyes (NOT YOU RUDI), who served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and is on the calendar's cover. "This is a way for citizens to help citizens."

The "America's Heroes" calendar is being sold by Freedom is Not Free, a San Diego-based nonprofit group that helps injured service members and their families with such expenses as travel, mortgage and utility bills and special beds for burn victims.

Reyes and the other men who appear in the glossy 2007 lineup served in Iraq in Marine reconnaissance units. Sgt. James Wright, 31, who lost his hands and part of his leg, appears on the back cover in full uniform, saluting with what's left of his right arm.

Several members of the group, promoting the calendar on a cross-country tour, said Thursday they have medical conditions, ranging from combat stress-related symptoms to injuries to their feet, knees, hips and backs from carrying combat loads of more than 200 pounds.

When service members come back, "many don't have the financial or emotional support to get back to daily life," said former Sgt. Michael Saucier, 24, of Prior Lake, Minn., who served two Iraq tours and is now a carpenter's apprentice in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

All but one of the men had to be coaxed to pose shirtless for the calendar.

"I wasn't afraid to pose. This is the new-generation Marines," quipped Sean Mickle, 31, a Marine platoon sergeant at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

The $14.99 calendar promises that "100 percent of proceeds aid wounded heroes and their families."

Production expenses were covered by private donations to Freedom is Not Free, founded last year by entrepreneur David Dominguez.

"There is a need," he said. "Some Iraq veterans are so depressed when they get back they can't even fill out the papers required for benefits."

The calendar is the brainchild of his client Jean Hamerslag, a California advertising executive who suggested that the organization's fundraising needed something that would grab the public's attention.

"Sex," she said with a giggle.

X-treme Hayley

Today we did some light hiking in Taylors Falls and discovered that our niece Hayley is basically fearless..

Good luck Mom and Dad....

Congratulations Scott and Anne

This weekend Amy made it back to Minnesota for the first time since she moved to Dallas at the end of July so that we could attend a family wedding in Taylors Falls.

It was a beautiful
outdoor wedding set in the woods on a rocky stream and the bride and groom couldn’t have asked for a better day. Amy and I thought the ceremony was spectacular and very unique to the couple and their personalities.

More pictures can be seen on the flickr.. (right side of the screen and scroll down) or click on the links in the story...

Passed!!!

Amy passed her boards… And you may ask the question… So she finally done? The answer would be… Nope… And I have no idea when the official “done” will happen…

But as you can see by this blog post, she’s getting closer :)….

Seriously.. I’m very proud of Amy. She has worked extremely hard to accomplish this milestone. I continue to be amazed how much effort she (and here classmates) puts into her (their) training and carrier.. I hope everyone gets a similar letter in the mail this week!!! I know Nate did….

Those are Some Big Beirs... (o)(o)

Women dressed in traditional Bavarian clothes enjoy their beer in a beer tent during the 173rd Oktoberbreast, the biggest beer festival in the world, in Munich, October 2, 2006. Germans, in party mood after the World Cup and cheered by a pickup in the economy, have 18 days to consume millions of litres of beer and hundreds of thousands of sausages as the festival has been extended to include October 3 public holiday. These Ladies look nothing like the lovely Texas broads at Septemberfest...

Play Time...

I stayed in Rochester this weekend to relax and let Amy get caught up on some projects. I also wanted to spend some time with my new toy.

So, this morning I took the Porsche to my favorite breakfast place in Rochester. Then after breakfast I took a quick spin over to my friend Carl’s to show him the car and to look at his toys. Carl has some pretty cool toys…

Well, today was my lucky day. After Carl looked over my car, he got one of his toys off the rack, yes rack.. Carl has 2 lifts in his garage so he can fit 5 cars in a 3 car garage. Yes!!! I got to drive Carl’s 1988(1/2) Ferrari 328 GTS with less than 10K on it…. Very sweet ride.. I felt like Magnum PI.

Later I took a drive up to Wabasha on the always fun HWY 60.. It was kind of a test run for me to learn about the car and what it’s potential might be..

Goal!!!

Amy and I went to our first professional soccer game last night. In fact, it was the first time I had ever watched soccer in person (at any level).. We liked it….

The game was between
FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake. Our team won, FC Dallas, 2 to 1.

There’s lots of things to do in Dallas and the people here @
TSRHC have been extremely generous with their time and resources to make us feel welcome and in making sure we are enjoying ourselves..

And yes we know that we missed the annually
Sim Party, but we still had a great time.. Maybe we will get to go to the Sim Party next year, if we are invited….

Young Hunters Prepare For Youth Hunt

I really miss Michigan sometimes... Here's a feel good story about guns, kids, and the state working to get them into their hands sooner......

New DNR regulations in Michigan are intended to attract new hunters, and many will get their first shot at a buck this weekend. The annual youth deer hunt gives youth from ages 10 to 16 a chance to learn more about the sport.

The two day season has the same general rules as the regular firearm season, but no baiting is allowed. The minimum hunting age has been lowered this year for both big and small game, and a new apprentice license has been adopted.

For more detailed rules on the hunter apprentice program and specific regulations on the youth deer hunt, be sure to consult the 2006 DNR Hunting and Trapping Guide.

Ooooh, a Texas delicacy…. Fried spuds.. These fine ladies actually have garden hoes that they are working the studs around this huge frying pan with.

I don’t know if it’s a good business to be in or not. It seems they’ve been eating into to their profits. You can tell from their sagging bottom line……..

Set It and Forget It...

This weekend Amy and I where at our godson Dalton’s home outside Fort Worth, TX for his 5th Birthday Party, which was actually today (09-11-01).

Dalton’s dad, my cousin Dave, rented this waterslide.. I would have to say that it’s hands down the only way to completely occupy children for hours… Absolute genius… About 10 kids played and played… While adults looked on with minimal effort genius.. And after about 5 hours, every kid was cashed… genius…

Excellent idea Dave (A+)..

New York Minute

This is on the list of places to dine when Amy and I return to Manhattan.

Consigned to dining dinosaurdom since the last Automat closed in 1991, the eatery idea returns to the Big Apple this week with a modern twist.

A team of entrepreneurs is launching Bamn! Automat in the East Village complete with a menu of pizza dumpling, mac-and-cheese pockets and bite-size chicken nuggets.

The 600-square-foot eatery offers a tiny storefront and no seats. Designed for hip, barhopping, schedule-lacking students and nostalgic tourists, the St. Marks Place store will be open 24 hours.

Best of all, the price is still hard to beat: Most items cost less than $3.

Here's to Wang

Now I see why Dan goes to China about every month..... Well, did go...

China may be giving striptease funerals the last rites after officials arrested five people and ordered an end to the practise, state media said.

Strip shows have been commonly used to attract more mourners to funerals, as villagers believe a crowded send-off brings more honor to the deceased, Xinhua news agency said.

But police took action after state television exposed the "obscene performances" at a funeral in Donghai county, Jiangsu province, with 200 people including children in attendance, it said.

"When the performance reached a climax, two performers started stripping and to show their charm. They even dragged audiences onto the stage to join them," Beijing News said, citing the television report.

Wealthier families in villages often employ two troupes of performers to try to draw a crowd at the funerals of their loved ones.

After the television report, the local government quickly issued an order to stop the practice and demanded that village committees have to report details of each funeral plan within 12 hours after a villager dies.

A hotline was also set up for residents to report on "funeral misdeeds," it said. The funeral striptease is also a popular custom in parts of Taiwan.

Tourists in Big D

Saturday, Amy and I went to the Six Floor Museum in Dallas, TX which in 1963 was the building known as the Texas School Book Depository that Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated JFK.

It was very cool. Amy and I found it very educational. I was amazed with the time line of event on Nov 22, 1963. It’s amazing how many things happened from 12:30 when JFK was shot. Until 5:00 when Jackie arrived home with JFK’s body..

Outside in the street where JFK was shot the have painted X’s to mark the location.. At least that’s what I think the X’s are….
