Mini-Tree

Amy and I went out with my mom the day after Thanksgiving and scored this 4" pre-lit tree in the mighty Wal-Mart forest... And Rudi, no wise cracks.. this is our Dallas tree.. I fully intend on getting a real tree for our home in Minnesota... In fact, I think the Blincoln will come in handy for that task...

UP Holiday

Today is opening day of firearm deer season in Michigan. This “UP Holiday”, as posted by the Gladstone Area School District, includes all of the schools closing and most people having the day off work… Only in the UP…. This is one of the things I miss about home…

Here’s a couple of hunting tips to keep in mind..

Stick-Man

I have a concern that has been growing about my friend Nick, and it has to do with him not wearing a shirt, when he should be. In this photo Nick is racking leaves in Dayton, OH last week. It’s not like it was so hot that he had to take it off, or that he needed some sun because his “tan” was fading..

I don’t get it….. And I don’t get why he sends these photo’s to me….

Winter Wonderland

Today we got the first big snow storm of the year, by noon we had about 5 inches… I do love the snow and look forward to winter. Since we have moved to Minnesota winters have been pretty weak, but maybe this year will be different.

And, today was the first chance I had to use the truck (aka.. da' Blincoln: Bis Ass Lincoln) on snowy roads.. Very nice.. The Focus was a good snow car but didn’t have the (hey stay in your lane) road presence that an over 5,000lb. truck demands.. Safety first... :)

Added bonus.. I will be flying out the evening to Dallas (75 degrees) for a weekend with Amy.. Yep, best of both worlds..

Nicotini, Soaked Not Smoked

This drink is sure to calm your nerves. The nicotini burst upon the scene last summer to offset the smoking ban in restaurants all over the country. A liquid cigarette, this drink comes complete with all the nicotine rush and tobacco aftertaste found in an entire pack of Camels. What does all this mean to the marketing and advertising world? Well, perhaps an entirely new pitch altogether. Are we about to market Marlboro Manhattans, Camel Chardonnays? How about Rum and Tangueray Tarletons, whose drinkers would rather drink than fight and menthol Mint Juleps and Winston Wallbangers? If so, will we go one step further and capture filtered or unfiltered or low and high tar drinks as well? I wonder what would happen if you mixed in a little Red Bull, probably a heart-attack.

With winter coming this would be a good idea for the Westfire.......

How Smart Is Your Right Foot?

This is so funny that it will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!!!

Halloween is a tradition celebrated on the night of October 31, most notably by children dressing in costumes and going door-to-door collecting sweets. Support Our Troops

A group of Marines and ex-Marines who fought in Iraq — including two wounded there — are featured in a beefcake calendar being sold to help wounded veterans.

"It's a stopgap effort to help people where government programs leave off," said Rudy Reyes (NOT YOU RUDI), who served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and is on the calendar's cover. "This is a way for citizens to help citizens."

The "America's Heroes" calendar is being sold by Freedom is Not Free, a San Diego-based nonprofit group that helps injured service members and their families with such expenses as travel, mortgage and utility bills and special beds for burn victims.

Reyes and the other men who appear in the glossy 2007 lineup served in Iraq in Marine reconnaissance units. Sgt. James Wright, 31, who lost his hands and part of his leg, appears on the back cover in full uniform, saluting with what's left of his right arm.

Several members of the group, promoting the calendar on a cross-country tour, said Thursday they have medical conditions, ranging from combat stress-related symptoms to injuries to their feet, knees, hips and backs from carrying combat loads of more than 200 pounds.

When service members come back, "many don't have the financial or emotional support to get back to daily life," said former Sgt. Michael Saucier, 24, of Prior Lake, Minn., who served two Iraq tours and is now a carpenter's apprentice in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

All but one of the men had to be coaxed to pose shirtless for the calendar.

"I wasn't afraid to pose. This is the new-generation Marines," quipped Sean Mickle, 31, a Marine platoon sergeant at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

The $14.99 calendar promises that "100 percent of proceeds aid wounded heroes and their families."

Production expenses were covered by private donations to Freedom is Not Free, founded last year by entrepreneur David Dominguez.

"There is a need," he said. "Some Iraq veterans are so depressed when they get back they can't even fill out the papers required for benefits."

The calendar is the brainchild of his client Jean Hamerslag, a California advertising executive who suggested that the organization's fundraising needed something that would grab the public's attention.

"Sex," she said with a giggle.
